SHORT FILM
LOGINE: Two housemates have different ideas on how they want to celebrate their Christmas, one wants a party, while the other is more the complete opposite.
This really short film was a small project assigned to us for our module ‘Intro to Cinematography’. Myself and another student wanted to direct this piece so we decided to split the film, he directed the 1st half and I directed the 2nd half.
The concept of this film came about when our scriptwriter wanted to have some sort of murder/gruesome twist to a tale between 2 friends. I casted this film and Áine and Kevin were absolutely brilliant in bringing Kim and Gavin to life and their dynamics were just too perfect not to be please by their performances.
Since filming the 1st half of the film went on much longer than scheduled, I feel like my opportunity to direct wasn’t as we planned. It was quite rushed and very late at night. The shoot went on for almost 7 hours straight which showed we were definitely behind our anticipated schedule.
We also shot the film on a Tuesday and it was to be submitted on the Friday. The editor didn’t really have enough time to make our desired edit but he certainly did a pretty good job. Props used in this film were thanks to our actor Kevin, myself and our editor.
My favourite scene that myself and my DOP constructed was the murder. The screams were post-recorded and we used fake blood to bring out the rushes of kill and aggressive temper. The movement of the camera when Gavin is stabbing Kim was a great technique and our DOP did an amazing job on showing that emotion and aggression to the audience.
No one was harmed when making this short film!
