SHORT FILM
Logine: A stoic gang member has his morals challenged when he is asked to kill his loyal friend to protect his only daughter.
My very first short film was a group effort from by myself and 5 fellow students at Griffith College. Each of us had to direct and edit our own scene. I would say this was my directorial debut when it comes to working with scripted scenes and actors. In my honest opinion, I was terrified about directing actors and delegating the crew throughout my scene. But as the day went by, I broke my fear and attempted to get the best performance out of the actors as I already knew of the amount of potential they brought the production at that time.
I mainly volunteered to be the sound engineer throughout the rest of production. We used the ZOOM H6 recorder which for first years I think was a good beginner appliance for sound students starting out. I really enjoying recording the sound for the first and last scenes of the film as I got to really expense the struggle of making sure the boom and radio mics don’t show in frame or on any clothing whatsoever.
Editing my scene was quite a stretch in my opinion. As someone who respects this department but doesn’t really want to dive right into the nitty gritty of techniques, etc, I found post-production for this project quite overwhelming yet understandable. We used Adobe Premiere Pro to edit this short film and that is by far my favourite software to use in terms of editing any type of film/documentary.
Overall, as a starting point into the film industry I feel this film really brought us out of our comfort zones and made us realise every single aspect in terms of working together as a team, but more importantly exploring each of the departments and zooming us in to their perspectives into how each department have a pivotal role into making a film/idea into reality.
