SHORT FILM

LOGLINE: Miles, a successful photographer, is on the hunt for the perfect photo depicting homelessness. After meeting an upbeat homeless gentleman, and a number of failed attempts at the picture, he finally gets a chance at the Money Shot.

We filmed this short in April 2023 and released it the next month in May. This would be one of the most proudest productions I’ve worked on, as everyone was so professional and well organised throughout our 2 days of filming.

I was of course the sound engineer and it was my first time using the ZOOM f8n on a professional shoot. It mainly consisted of 2 actors so the main sources of sound were constructed by radio mics and the boom. It was quite easy to recorder sound in the locations that took place indoors. Whereas the majority of the film was shot on Parnell Street, Dublin 1.

Thanks to my boom operator, we were able to record the dialogue and ambience amazingly throughout production. We were all troubled by the unexpected rain shower that took place during our finals scenes for the day. However, as a group we were able to make it work and continuity thankfully wasn’t an issue that had to be addressed in post.

I picked out some of the tracks that we used in the final edit. As someone who now is very familiar with the basics of using sound equipment and evening out tracks and music that would set the sound apart from the rest of the departments, I felt the music and effects worked so well in relation to comedic timing and pace.

Overall, this would be by far a favourite of mine in terms of my own role and the stages in which we brought this script to life. Everyone worked so hard and appreciated the cooperation that was effectively seen on screen and behind.
